Grenfell Tower Fire

14 June 2017

In the early hours of 14 June 2017 a large scale fire broke out in a block of high rise apartments in London, with the fire still in full effect for most of the day, lots of journalists and the public were looking for the answer for why and how the fire started and spread so quickly, sadly killing many of the occupants. Journalist Josh Halliday from the Guardian newspaper contacted us directly to see if the policies in place work and if there will be a change in current legislation and the fire industry as a whole.

Speaking with the Guardian, our Technical Director Mike Tobin said: "As a rule, the Stay Put policy works but I think this is such a tragic incident there’s so many potential issues that make it a one-off."

Talking about the after effect on the fire safety industry, Tobin said "I've never seen anything like this. This will change our industry whether we like it or not. There's too many deaths for it to go without something coming out of it - they might look at what Scotland is doing, putting sprinklers in all new communal buildings but that would not have stopped this fire."
